Volunteering with Stop Hunger Now

Date :10 June 2014

280 HP Employees + 2 hours = Success!

All the volunteers were briefed about norms of the event. At 1:00 pm the employees began to queue up in front of the hall to confirm their registration before participating in the event.
We had many assembly lines and on each we had around 10-12 volunteers managing various tasks associated with the package of meals. The process of packaging the meal packs was systematic and performed in an orderly fashion. It began with the adding the vitamin packets to the custom made meal bag, followed by adding a cup of Dal, a scoop of onion power, a scoop of dried vegetables and a cup of Rice through the funnel. After which the entire bag was weighed to ensure the uniformity across meal packages with an ideal weight between 300-385 grams. Post which the meal bags were sealed using an electric sealing machine and arranged in a box before sealing them. Each Box contained 36 meal packages.

Volunteers managed various tasks during this event from participating on the assembly lines to packing the boxes, from supplying raw materials to assembly lines to storing the packed boxes.
Every assembly line had a designated funnel captain and a floor marshal, who were responsible to manage the funnel and co-ordinate the packing on the specific assembly line respectively.
The co-ordination, dedication, enthusiasm and passion displayed by the volunteers along with cheering & encouraging each other was excellent.

It reminded me of a restaurants Kitchen’s or an assembly line at a fast food center. We had people shouting, cheering and asking for raw materials and boxes to be pack. I recollect few lines like ” We need Rice at assembly line 1″ to which the response from the raw materials team was “1 box of rice to the Line 1, On the way”, it was funny and joyful.

This was a very memorable day for all the volunteers and they all departed with a smile on their face and the satisfaction of having contributed to the society in their hearts.

Yet again, HP as always created a platform for the employees to fulfil their social responsibility and serve the society on this historic day.

In the space of 2 hours we managed to break two records, the previous HP record of 102,000 meals packed by our group in December 2012 and also a Stop Hunger Now European Record!

The goal was to package 120,000 meals to go to Africa and in the end with your dedication, enthusiasm and sheer hard work you packed a fantastic 146,000 meals, a new record!

And finally our group photo,

UNICEF TAP Project

As you know I get involved in varieties of volunteer projects from across the globe and this is one of its kind.  Any one with smart phone and internet connection can volunteer for this project from any where in the world. This project is called  UNICEF TAP Project. It is an opportunity to support UNICEF year-round in raising awareness about water-related issues at your work, in school and among friends.

UNICEF Tap Project is working to help the 768 million people around the world without access to clean water. This year you can help by taking a challenge to give up access to something far less vital than water–your cell phone.

If ready for challenge access this link from here http://tap.unicefusa.org

I went 1hr without my phone & helped give 8 days of clean water to children in need. Take the challengehttp://uniceftapproject.org #tapproject
