Nail polish health risks

The study involved 24 women and experts evaluated the effects of the chemical toxins in their bodies. The source of these chemicals was nail polish.
All of the participants were found to have signs of triphenyl phosphate in the body only 10 hours after applying nail polish.
The same researchers, in a follow-up study, evaluated 10 different nail polishes for triphenyl phosphate and found it in 8 of them.
What’s more, two of these 8 did not even list the presence of the chemical on the label. Therefore, 20% of nail polishes we purchase have a harmful chemical that is not listed on the label.
Triphenyl phosphate (or TPHP) is a dangerous chemical that disrupts the humans’ endocrine system, which controls all our hormones. According to the lead researcher of the study, Dr. Heather Stapleton, “There is growing evidence suggesting that TPHP may affect hormone regulation, metabolism, reproduction, and development.”
Hence, his is extremely alarming for young girls who use nail polish on a daily basis and the healthy hormonal development is vital for their growth. TPHP  is a known:
  • Neurotoxin (causes developmental effects)
  • Reproductive Toxin
  • Skin irritant and allergen
  • Endocrine Toxin
Nail polish contains other harmful ingredients as well, such as:
Formaldehyde is a popular carcinogen which dissolves in water and air. It leads to asthma, scratchy throat, and difficulty breathing. Individuals suffering from some chronic diseases are especially prone to poisoning from formaldehyde.
Dibutyl Phthalate
This chemical poses the similar risks as TPHP, as it disrupts the hormonal balance and contains reproductive system toxins.
Toluene impedes the development in children and irritates skin.
Yet, there are some natural nail polish alternatives you can use in order to prevent these effects and help you avoid allergies, cancer, and hormone disruption.
These are the best of them:
-Acquarella offers more than 50 polish colors, which are all water-based, meaning that you can remove them effortlessly with standard rubbing alcohol, and don’t contain any of these harmful ingredients like formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, mercury, or wheat products.
-Peacekeeper Cause-Metics offers bright nail polishes, which do not contain toxins and are infused with argan oil, which moisturizes your nails.
-SpaRitual is a completely vegan brand that produces toxin-free nail polishes.
-Honeybee Gardens offers nail polishes in various colors, which are water-based, and are free of carcinogens and harmful chemicals.
Make sure you always choose health-conscious nail polishes in order to protect your wellbeing and avoid the side-effects of regular nail polish brands.

Surya Namaskara  also known in English as Sun Salutation  is a common sequence of asanas. Its origins lie in India where its large Hindu population worships Surya, the Hindu solar deity.

This sequence of movements and asanas can be practised on varying levels of awareness, ranging from that of physical exercise in various styles, to a complete sadhana which incorporates asana, pranayama, mantra and chakra meditation.

Surya Namaskara, like most asanas, is recommended to be performed on an empty stomach. Therefore some recommend a gap of at least two hours after eating and before performing the namaskara. It is generally practiced in the morning before breakfast or in evening.

Sugar and Aging

Sugar, not only affects your waistline and heart health, it also impacts your skin.

“Sugar definitely is the biggest culprit in speeding up the process of premature aging,” says Dr. Whitney Bowe, a dermatologist at Advanced Dermatology in New York City. “It makes us look more haggard and wrinkled.”

When people eat too much sugar, or carbs that quickly break down to sugar, the excess floods the body. Some of it hangs out in the blood, spiking a person’s glucose levels, but it also binds to proteins in a process known as glycation. Sugar loves linking to collagen and elastin, two proteins that give skin its firm, supple look.

Collagen and elastin become stiff and rigid and you cannot repair them says Farris, co-author of “The Sugar Detox: Lose the Sugar, Lose the Weight

Burn Off Sugar
You can burn off the glucose in your bloodstream by  physical movement by riding a bicycle or jog or do jumping jacks. It also helps if you would swing your arms in circular motions, both backward and forward. You will see great results if you do either one or all of these suggestions for at least 10 minutes or more.
Flush Out Sugar
To rid your body of sugar, flush it out. . Flush out sugar from your body by drinking two 8-ounce glasses of water quickly. Wait five minutes and then drink a third 8-ounce glass of water. Needless to say, drinking all that water will cause you to urinate and flush out the sugar.
Nuts are great for lowering and controlling blood sugar levels; particularly the oil bearing nuts, squash, and sun flower seeds.
Wheat Germ
Wheat germ lowers blood sugar because it consists of vitamins B and E. Four or five spoonful of wheat germ can lower the sugar level in your blood as well as the need for insulin.
Several studies have shown that a realistic amount of vinegar or lemon juice, in the form of salad dressing, consumed with a mixed meal, lowers blood sugar levels significantly.
Vegetables are a very good food for people with elevated blood sugar. The best vegetables for lowering blood sugar are cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbages.
Foods such as snack cakes, muffins, breakfast cereal and even spaghetti sauce can contain loads of sugar. Check the labels.

Do you know this secret ?

It is so yummy to have chocolates after dinner. And I just finished my last Hershey's from fridge. Even though I follow diet I can't resist the temptation of Chocolates. You must be wondering why I am still thinking of Choco eggs and chocolates , yes there is a little secret behind it..

I was following diet and kept myself engaged with work and gym and games for past few months with great expectations that I will loose my weight and will reach my target of kg by May 31st 2014. (Jan 1st Resolution)

With few days to my target date I just checked my weights at my GP , general practitioner today evening and the  results made me upset I should say very upset. My weight is not even starts in 50's :(.

In one of the consulting section bupa dietitian asked me to write down all I had for a week and we analysed it together, yes I had lots of  food at odd times, no non veg, lots of caffeine, sugars, and chocolates, some spicy food etc.

So here is the secret , see how long you need to workout if you are eating chocolates just like me,

I am not against Chocolates or any brands but theses are my findings in day to day life.

Even though I exercise regularly my body kept absorbing the sugar in my diet and my exercise was not enough to break down already deposited fat in my body.

If I am stressed out or feeling cold / depressed I found comfort in my teas and I ended up having 10-12 teas a day with each tea having at least 20 gm of sugar per tea.

So dietitian advised to cut down the sugars, chocolates and donuts and cupcakes and fried items...

Advised to follow this diet more green colored vegetables and more fiber in food.

My appointment with dietitian was linked to my Bupa Medical insurance from my employer, but there are many useful things in Bupa's site, please check yourself here

Hope this helps you as well.

Healthy way to shop for groceries

Understanding these principles in theory is an important first step toward healthier eating. But principles mean little unless they shape how you actually shop and eat.
Given that the grocery store is where good intentions so often go amiss, here are some practical tips for healthier, stress-free grocery shopping.
Plan your meals and make a list

Impulse purchases are one of the most common downfalls for the would-be healthy eater.
Don't shop hungry

This is common advice, especially for those trying to lose weight. (Shopping with a basket, not a cart, can also be a great way to stop yourself from loading up on things you don't need.)
Shop at the farmers market first

I'm a big advocate for local, fresh, sustain-ably grown foods.

Learn to read nutrition labels

Understanding how much protein, fiber, carbohydrates or fat you and your family should be consuming is an important part of eating more healthily. .
